Alberto Del Giudice: IMI-Italian Military Internee 1943-45

Luisa Del Giudice (Independent, Los Angeles)

On 11/11/2020 at 2:00 a.m. the author made the discovery that her father had been interned in Nazi concentration camps as an Italienische Militärinternierte—a newly-coined term meant to subtract such former-allies (now considered “traitors”) from the Geneva Convention, round them up, and subject them to hard labor, starvation, and even death. The author explores family oral narratives against WWII history to piece together this wartime puzzle, along with other Italians recently reevaluating the role of these captive soldiers’ in a “Resistance without Arms,” “another form of resistance.”
