Cultural sustainability has emerged as a crucial domain of community development and holistic sustainability but has no established indicators for collecting and analyzing tangible data for assessment and monitoring. This paper explores the development of a set of cultural sustainability indicators designed from the synthesis of concepts in cultural sustainability, the social sciences, and biology. Combining academic and local knowledge, unique cultural variables informed by community members are coded into assessing the indicators, adapting them to the complex variations in culture. This paper describes each indicator, research supporting its role in cultural sustainability, and applying cultural context- specific variables.
