Vanessa Navarro Maza (HistoryMiami Museum)
Established in 2009, HistoryMiami Museum’s Miami Stories initiative is an oral history project that documents life in Miami through written stories, video submissions, and audio recordings, which are preserved in the museum’s archive and shared through local media outlets. Through Miami Stories, the museum facilitates the storytelling experience for the public and crowdsources experiences of life in Miami. I will discuss the growth of this project over the last decade, its challenges and opportunities, and the recent expansion to document stories about racial justice movements in South Florida from the Civil Rights Movement to the Black Lives Matter Movement.
