Wen Huo (Beijing Normal University)

In 2017, the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China explicitly set rural revitalization as the future development strategy of the country, and the countryside has received unprecedented attention. Since art can intuitively bring about changes in the appearance of the countryside, "art rural construction" was born, and a large number of art rural construction projects and villages have emerged, with kinds of money and people flocking to the countryside, and artists and architects have become a force to be reckoned with. "reinvention", "intervention", "dialogue", "cooperation".The reality of China's rural areas is fragile and decaying . Will the flurry of artistic rural construction movements in full swing bring about the revitalization to the countryside? Or is it a final blow to the fragile countryside? This paper uses the socially participatory art practice of the Yangdeng Art Cooperative in Yangdeng Township, Tongzi County, Zunyi City, Guizhou Province as a case study to explore how to make it possible for villagers to gain their subjectivity in the construction of art villages in China.
