Happiness Is A Warm Butch: Butch Iconography in Online Spaces

Caitlin Rimmer ()

Here, I present an aesthetic record of interviews, fieldwork and autoethnography created in conversation with a small online community that produces and shares art centering butch lesbians and their experiences. The work produced deeply contextualizes the artistic subject: often accompanied by interview excerpts, personal reflections and relevant archival materials. This community is actively engaging in the interpretation and distribution of archival materials, asserting a right for non heteronormative identities to exist in and be represented by archives, while simultaneously destabilizing the authority of the physical archive.
