Folk Arts Education in the Time of COVID-19: Addressing Students’ Social Emotional Needs

During this pandemic, full of complex challenges and trauma for many of families, Philadelphia’s K-8 Folk Arts – Cultural Treasures Charter School strove to support and strengthen students’ social emotional needs in growth-oriented ways. As we re-imagined education and conceived of what we could do within the virtual education environment, we refocused our folk arts education offerings to tap into cultural communities’ knowledge and ways of knowing about fostering physical, mental, and emotional health. Hear about folk arts education learning activities we tried, celebrate with us successes we are finding, and reflect upon lessons we are learning from bumps encountered.
