“Could this Meeting Have Been an Email? Could this Festival Have Been a Zoom Call?”: Evaluating and Reimaging Public Folklore Practices from a Year of Disruption

What can public folklore take away from the COVID-19 disruption? Based on my own experiences engaging in virtual fieldwork, conferences, festivals, media production, and roundtables during the COVID-19 pandemic, and including perspectives from leaders in the field of public folklore, this presentation will assess and evaluate what new methods, tools, and insights the pandemic brought to our practices in efforts to incorporate them to better meet the needs and desires of our audiences, collaborators, and artists.
