“Nerd” an Insult or a Compliment? Analyzing Stigma and Stereotypes among Comics Readers [virtual]

Comics readers have faced various stereotypes and challenges as a diverse fan community. One of the most common labels for comics readers is calling them "Nerd." In this paper, based on the ethnographic method, I argue how this label has made this fan community a stigmatized group, how it has affected the community members, and how its meaning and impact have changed over time.
