In this paper, I will explore death anxieties and beliefs of individuals who regularly volunteer in cemeteries in Kentucky and Indiana. While research with cemetery volunteers has been conducted in the past, typically it does not incorporate folkloristic views on belief or interview practices. I will consider research questions such as: Do gravers experience anxiety about death? How do gravers communicate with others about death? What drives them to continue their work? The public has shown a readiness to discuss this personal and difficult subject through various social movements and now is a crucial time to collect from those who are already navigating these conversations.
