This forum builds on a discussion panel at the 2019 American Folklore Society Annual Meeting that explored the opportunities and institutional challenges of partnerships between folklore and arts management programs in higher education. Since that discussion, the folklore and arts management programs at George Mason University built a two-course collaborative series in partnership with the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage. This discussion forum will share the opportunities, obstacles, and challenges that this partnership provided to the individual programs, students, and faculty. This innovative model may provide an example for future mutually beneficial collaborative options between the two fields.
